Curriculum Overview

There are two main ways that we deliver the curriculum. The first being a subject based approach, and the other through cross-curricular links.

Each class has an annual Curriculum Overview as seen below.

Year Group Curriculum Maps

The Core Curriculum

Lessons in English, Mathematics and Science and Computing are known as the Core Curriculum and are subject based. There are lessons every day in English and Mathematics. Science and Computing is taught at least once a week.

The Foundation Subjects

These are the other subjects that make up the weekly timetable. Art, Music, History, Geography, Physical Education, Religious Education, Personal, Social, Economic, Cultural and Health Education, Modern Foreign Languages, Design Technology.

Topic and Cross-curricular

Subjects are often topic based and cross-curricular. Special days or weeks where the emphasis is on developing curriculum strengths happen each half term. For example, a Science, History, or Art Week, or Design and Technology Day ending in a ‘House Competition’ help the children develop and share their skills. You will receive a class information sheet at the beginning of each term detailing the proposed learning for the term ahead. You will also receive a copy of your child’s timetable.

Curriculum Planning

Curriculum planning is done through Subject Curriculum Maps (long term planning), Subject Medium Term Plans (half-termly) and Subject Weekly Plans. All weekly plans are sent to the Head Teacher at the start of each week. English and Mathematics Planning is divided into a plan for every day of the week.

Subject Curriculum Maps

These can be accessed on the subject pages.
