Physical Education & Sport

We place great importance on healthy living and the physical well-being of our pupils. Our PE curriculum covers all areas of the National Curriculum. Learning to work as a part of a team is a life skill and during their years at Caversham Prep the pupils have the opportunity to develop these skills in a number of different sports and games.

Walk to School Friday

This is a family walk to school accompanied by at least one member of staff from Waitrose and Budgens. Sometimes the dogs walk with us!

Wake-Up Shake-Up!

Happens every Wednesday morning at 8.45 am, in the playground before school starts. The children do aerobic exercises to music, led by a member of staff.

Sports Wednesday

All children and staff come to school in their sports kit ready for a sports focussed afternoon.

Caversham Prep Students participation in sports

Swimming

Every class attends Queen Anne’s School swimming pool for one term per year. A specialist swimming teacher instructs them. The children in Year 6 learn life-saving skills. There is an annual whole school swimming gala that parents attend.

Caversham Prep Junior Class playing NetballInfant PE Lessons

Reception to Year 2, have two sessions of PE per week. One session is always out of doors on the school playground where team games and ball skills are developed. The second session is indoors for gymnastics, dance, movement, floor skills and partner work.

Junior PE Lessons

Years 3 to 6 have one session per week on Queen Anne’s School’s playing fields for team sports and games skills. Netball, tag rugby, rounders, football, cricket and tennis are all taught and played. In the Summer Term, athletics skills such as throwing the discus, shot put, jumping hurdles, long jump and sprinting are taught. Their second session of the week is taken either in our hall for gymnastics, dance, floor skills, partner work and yoga or on our own playground for netball, hockey or short tennis skills.

Teams

Our children meet with other schools to share sporting events. We regularly play sports and matches at Queen Anne’s School, Hemdean House, the Oratory, Rupert House School and Crosfields School. We also attend ISA Sports Events such as the Athletics Meet in Slough at the beginning of June and the ISA Athletics Championships.

Sports Scholarship

We offer a Sports Scholarship to children who are showing potential, or are achieving well in their chosen sport.

Sports Clubs

A range of weekly Sports Clubs are available as part of the extra-curricular provision of the School. Cross Country Running, Golf, Football, Rugby Skills, Netball, Street Dance, Yoga, Cricket and Rounders are all popular and encourage the children to develop their Physical Education and Sports Skills in a fun way.

Whole Sporting Events

We hold a School Sports Day and at the end of the summer term. Like the Swimming Gala, this are always such fun for both the pupils to participate in and their parents to watch.
